Last weekend I signed up to help with a veteran home build, I showed up with my hammer and a little confidence, figuring I’d just be one more set of hands. But once the walls started going up, I realized how much every nail and board mattered. The crew was a mix of pros and volunteers like me, and we all had the same goal, by the end of the day, I was sweaty, sore, and grinning — because swinging that hammer wasn’t just about building a house, it was about building stability for someone who earned it and dignity for me.
